Company Profile

We are a flight training organisation based in West Wales. We provide a high quality personal service to all of our customers. Please take a look around our web site and feel free to e-mail us for any further information or call direct on Tel: 07770 993078 and ask for Capt. Colin W. Larner, Chief Flight Instructor-Examiner.

Helicopter Great Dane Helicopters was established at Haverfordwest Aerodrome in May 1999 for the sole purpose of PPL training and self fly hire rental. Since our inception, we have trained many pilots to PPL standard, most of whom have obtained their license within 50 hours which is far below the national average of 70 hours plus. This we believe is due to the aircraft that we operate, i.e. the Hughes / Schweizer 300C helicopter and the fact that our courses are tailored to the individual requirements of our clients.

We guarantee to give each customer as much personal instruction, both flight and ground training, as required in order to achieve his or her license at the first attempt. We do not charge ground school fees to PPL customers regardless of how many hours are required. Our mission statement is to provide the best possible instruction, with safety being paramount, at a cost that is the most competitive within the industry.

Aircraft

We operate the Hughes / Schweizer 300C helicopter which was initially designed as a training aircraft for the United States military. Unlike some other piston engine helicopters currently used for training, the Hughes has conventional controls, utilises a fuel-injected engine thereby eliminating the possibility of carburettor icing problems and has possibly the best safety record for any training helicopter in use today. It is in my opinion and that of many other training establishments throughout the world, by far the most effective training helicopter currently available.

Student Pilot H300

We also operate the Enstrom F28A helicopter, which again has an excellent safety record, and is also fuel-injected. This aircraft is somewhat more demanding to fly due to it's lack of throttle correlation but is also an excellent training helicopter and is classed as the same type as the 300C for license revalidation purposes. It is possible to have both aircraft on your license at the end of your training at a small additional cost.
